Through the Leibniz MOBILITY programme, we promote international exchange at our university. The programme includes the two funding lines Leibniz INVITATIONS and Leibniz TRAVEL.
Leibniz INVITATIONS makes it possible to invite international researchers to our university to engage in an intensive exchange of ideas. With Leibniz TRAVEL, we support early career researchers from the Research Academy Leipzig so that they can travel to universities and research institutes worldwide for a stay that is focused on research and networking.
Leibniz INVITATIONS
With funding from the Leibniz INVITATIONS programme, we support international visiting researchers at our university who provide a significant contribution to the support of early career researchers.
Leibniz INVITATIONS includes financial support for travel and accommodation costs. Remuneration is set forth in the Leipzig University fee regulations (Chapter 5: Guest Stays). Academic staff can usually receive up to €2600 per month. We will be happy to assist you in organising your stay in Leipzig.
We expect our Leibniz guests to participate in the training of doctoral researchers at the Research Academy Leipzig, for example, by giving lectures and workshops and participating in colloquia, excursions, and summer or winter schools. We also welcome suggestions for other event formats. After the stay, we ask that participants submit a short report on what they accomplished during the time.
Proposals to invite visiting researchers can be submitted at any time by university professors as well as postdocs and doctoral researchers from any faculty. The latter should preferably be from the doctoral programmes of the Research Academy Leipzig whom the Leibniz Programme is intended to support. Please use the application form. The Head of the Leibniz Programme decides which proposals to accept.
The selection criteria include the following:
- compelling teaching approach and research objectives
- connection to the research profile areas and research foci at Leipzig University
- added value for the doctoral programmes at the Research Academy Leipzig
- long-term benefits
During the stay in Leipzig, the guest signs a formal guest agreement with the University. The terms will be clarified before the stay.
Leibniz TRAVEL
With funding from the Leibniz TRAVEL programme, we support postdoctoral researchers at our university who are planning a stay that is focused on research and networking. Early postdocs who defended their doctorate no more than three years ago can also apply for travel allowances to attend international conferences.
We support the following:
- invitations to hold a lecture at a university or research institute
- research stays to learn new methods
- summer and winter schools or similar programmes
- participation in the organisation of conferences
- travel to network meetings
- additional support for early postdocs (R2): travel allowances to actively participate in international conferences (lecture or poster as first author)
We do not support stays to fulfil general project tasks such as field research or collecting samples.
We provide support only for postdocs who are members of the Research Academy Leipzig. To become a member, you must register at Leipzig University and meet the following requirements:
- you are in Stage 2 or 3 of your academic career as outlined by the European Framework for Research Careers;
- you have a temporary contract or are a scholarship holder at Leipzig University;
- you are primarily involved in research; and
- you did your doctorate no more than six years ago or eight years ago in the case of parental leave.
You can apply for funding for a stay that is focused on research and networking at any time. The completed application form and scans of the attachments can be submitted in advance by email. However, you must then send the signed form together with the attachments by postal mail.
Please send your application to Viola Gründemann. The Head of the Leibniz Programme decides which applications to accept.
