Our free workshops are open to all doctoral researchers and postdocs studying at Leipzig University or cooperating research institutions. We offer you the opportunity to strengthen the skill sets you need as an early career researcher in a differentiated and tailored way and to actively plan the next steps on your career path.

  • Online registration opens one month before each workshop takes place.
  • You can register for up to three workshops of your choice, and you will then receive an automatic confirmation email. The confirmation email does not yet guarantee you a place.
  • However, you will receive a confirmation of participation one to two weeks before the workshop. This confirmation of participation guarantees your place, and your registration is then binding. If the event is full, you will receive a message to that regard and will be placed on the waiting list.

Please note that the number of places for our workshops is limited and that there is a very high demand.
  • We expect that you will attend all of the sessions and participate actively. Otherwise, you will not receive any ECTS points. Go here for further information.

What should you do if you end up not being able to participate in a workshop? Please let us know by email or telephone at least one week before the start of the workshop! This way we can give the place to someone on the waiting list.

Our programme of workshops and events is aimed at all doctoral researchers and postdocs at Leipzig University. Some workshops are specially designed for one group or the other. Early career researchers from research institutions that are in partnership with Leipzig University are also welcome to participate. Doctoral researchers and postdoc from our arqus partner universities are kindly invited to register for our online courses. For doctoral researchers in our structured doctoral programmes, the Competence School is designed as a supplement to their subject-specific offerings. Doctoral researchers will be given preference in the registration process.

The Research Academy Leipzig pays the participation fees for all doctoral researchers and postdocs at Leipzig University.

Unless otherwise stated, all workshops are held in the Research Academy Leipzig’s seminar rooms at Villa Tillmanns (Wächterstraße 30, Ground Floor).

In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, some of our workshops are currently being held online. It is also possible that some on-campus workshops may be changed over to an online format. In this case, we would inform you in advance.

Just as with face-to-face events, we also expect you to make a binding registration for our online workshops. After successful registration you will receive the access data for the online workshop. If, contrary to expectations, you are unable to attend an event, please let us know.

If you register for an event that has already reached the maximum number of participants, you will be placed on a waiting list. Those at the top of the waiting list will receive a “Take your chance!” email a few days before the workshop. The email gives them the opportunity to come to Villa Tillmanns right before the event starts. If there is room, they will be allowed to participate.

After a workshop, we award certificates of participation and ECTS credits. According to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, 1 ECTS credit corresponds to 25 to 30 hours of working time. This includes class time as well as the time needed to prepare for and follow up on lectures. In the case of doctoral researchers, the faculties decide themselves whether or not to recognize the ECTS credits in the doctoral procedure.

The workshops are held in the same language as their title and description.

In cooperation with Family Services in the Equal Opportunities Office at the University, we offer our members (i.e. doctoral researchers in structured doctoral programmes and registered postdocs) free on-site childcare during the workshops. When you register, simply let us know if you need childcare, along with the age of the child. Later requests must be made at least two weeks prior to the workshop.

To offer childcare, we work together with the childcare referral agency Mittagskind. All caregivers have childcare training and hold an emergency card (Nothilfepass) and a certificate of conduct (polizeiliches Führungszeugnis). The agency is following all current regulations for the coronavirus pandemic outlined by the Free State of Saxony.

We are doing everything possible to protect participants, lecturers and staff members from exposure to the coronavirus. In accordance with Leipzig University’s guidelines, we have developed a hygiene plan that requires participants to comply with distancing rules, wear face masks in certain rooms and provide their contact details. We also ask that you only register for workshops if you are feeling healthy and are committed to following the protective measures. If you should test positive for SARS-CoV-2 after having been at Villa Tillmanns, please inform us immediately.

Workshops and Events at Villa Tillmanns
In the welcome email and at the beginning of the workshop or event, the trainers will inform participants about the safety measures and hygiene rules. Anyone with suspected symptoms of coronavirus (especially fever or a cough) will not be allowed to enter the building and are advised to stay at home and consult a doctor.
Wherever possible, a distance of at least 1.5 metres must be kept from others. In order to make this possible, there will be an adapted seating arrangement and a smaller number of participants. If the minimum distance cannot be maintained, participants must wear a face mask (covering mouth and nose). You should have your own mask with you in case this is necessary. Soap, disposable towels and disinfectant are available in our toilets and in the foyer.
The use of stairs, entrances and exits has been arranged so that distance can be maintained. A one-way walking system has been put into place in the building where possible. There are signs to show you the route.
The workshop trainers must air closed rooms well and at regular time intervals. The recommendation is every 30 minutes. If possible, it is best to open the doors to the seminar rooms when you are ventilating so that air can flow through the foyer.

Name and Contact Details
Before the workshop or event, the contact details of all participants (name, telephone number and address) will be collected in accordance with data protection regulations. The data will be collected solely for the purpose of tracing cases of coronavirus. It will not be used for any other reason. All data will be deleted four weeks after the workshop or event.
