Although the faculties and institutes are responsible for the training of young scientists in their particular discipline, the Research Academy offers a variety of additional learning opportunities before, during and after the doctoral project. Through its programmes, the Research Academy Leipzig aims at creating the best possible environment for the training and advancement of up-and-coming researchers. Its interdisciplinary workshops and events prepare young scientists for a postdoctoral career in science, society, and business.
Within the framework of the Kompetenzschule ELSYS (Employability and Leadership Skills for Young Saxon Researchers), the Research Academy offers workshops und coaching for doctoral researchers and postdocs on the following topics: Presenting & Publishing, Scientific Methods, Finding & Seizing Opportunities, Communicating & Managing, Understanding the World of Science and Language. These educational events are held in German and English and are geared to the needs of young scientists and complement the discipline-specific training provided in the structured doctoral programmes.
At Leipzig, doctoral researchers and postdocs also benefit from a variety of other qualification programmes offered by other providers that are aimed at promoting key skills, such as language and computer courses.
The Research Academy supports experienced scientists and university professors through workshops and consulting services on supervising doctoral researchers and through the establishment of structured programmes for doctoral instruction.
