Leipzig University is a diverse site of scientific learning and research. Therefore to ensure that related opportunities are equally available to all, equality is understood as a cross-sectional task, which is directed university-wide for all institution by the administrative department "Equal Opportunities, Diversity and Family" (currently in development, previously the Equal Opportunity Office of Leipzig University). This office coordinates activities in line with the university family charter and the diversity certification "Designing Diversity" for which the university is well known. Thus, members of the Research Academy benefit from measures for equality in participation, such as the promotion of young scientists, barrier-free infrastructure, and support for reconciling the demands of family with those of career/study. Through this department, you also can receive information and support for childcare as well as flexible childcare for conferences and workshops. In addition, it offers a mentoring-programme for young female scientists at Leipzig University.
The Katharina-Windscheid-Prize is awarded annually to a doctoral researcher (male or female) at the Research Academy who completes an outstanding dissertation under special life circumstances and who deserves recognition for promoting gender equality and family friendliness in the research environment.
