The Research Academy Leipzig is the cental institution at Leipzig University for the promotion of junior researchers; its goal is to create the best possible conditions for the advancement of young scientists.
Doctoral researchers are assigned to one of three Graduate Centres: Mathematics/Computer Science and Natural Sciences, Life Sciences, or Humanities and Social Sciences. All are structured doctoral programmes at the university. In addition, there is a postdoctoral training programme aimed at guiding young researchers on their path to professional independence in their chosen field.
The Graduate Centres consist of classes, e.g. the international doctoral programmes, the Max Planck research schools, and the national and international graduate schools. Each of these thematically organised groups provides qualification training for doctoral researchers. Headed by scientists at Leipzig University, the programmes are designed to meet all requirements for the doctoral degree.
Through interdisciplinary workshops, travel allowances and other events, the Postdoc programme addresses the specific challenges that postdocs face as they prepare for a career in academia or transition to the non-university labour market.
