Funding for German Courses

The Research Academy Leipzig provides support for international doctoral researchers to learn German. To this end, you will be offered German courses and reimbursed fees for courses offered by designated providers.

Doctoral researchers who attend one or more courses offered by the following providers may apply for the reimbursement of costs.

Their course offerings include intensive language courses and special courses designed for foreign doctoral researchers Both the Sachsen Preparatory College and the Leipzig Adult Education Centre offer a wide range of courses aimed at students with different levels of German mastery and different professional orientations. For more detailed information about their course offerings, please see their respective websites.

Application for Reimbursement for a Language Course

Those interested in receiving reimbursement for German language course fees must apply for a language course scholarship prior to taking the course. The application should be submitted via e-mail to the Research Academy and must include the following information:

  • Last name, first name
  • Class at der Research Academy
  • Name of the German course (VHS, SKS or InterDaF)
  • Registration fee

To receive reimbursement for the course, the applicant must have attended the course regularly (min. of 80% of class sessions); otherwise the costs of the course will not be reimbursed.

For the InterDaF intensive courses only a few grants can be awarded, so it is recommended that you apply early.

Registration for Courses

To register for courses offered by VHS or SKS, you must register directly with these institutions. Registration for InterDaF courses is done through the Graduate Centre with which you are affiliated.

Reimbursement of Fees

Course fees must be paid at the time of enrolment. Once you complete the course, you will need to submit the original receipt, the certificate of attendance, and the reimbursement form to the Research Academy.
